PFAS compounds, diesel exhaust, and combustion byproducts accumulate in the body long before symptoms appear. Here is what the science says — and what you can actually do about it.
Evidence-based briefings on the occupational risks structural firefighting carries — written for crews, officers, and union reps who want straight answers, not press releases.
We do.
Interceptor Health is a team of medical professionals, clinical laboratorians, and medical industry business professionals whose mission is to engage with the fire and rescue community in the early identification of health issues that result from their unique occupational hazards. We use a multiphase process — sometimes two, sometimes three phases — combined with a series of screening and diagnostic modalities, including clinical laboratory testing, imaging, and on-site physical examination by medical personnel, to uncover key diagnostic indicators of serious developing health issues.
Our mission is to use advanced blood tests in combination with other clinical procedures to go beyond NFPA 1582 guidelines and detect early-stage developing disorders like heart disease or cancers common in the firefighter cohort. We seek to identify those firefighters whose histories and test results demonstrate the likely presence of, or risk for, developing atherosclerotic or metastatic disease. Early detection, medical intervention, clinical education, and routine monitoring are key to mitigating potentially adverse or fatal outcomes.
The process does not end there. Our medical team analyzes the data and delivers 30-minute individual counseling sessions to firefighters concerning their results and the appropriate next steps. Further follow-up calls may be arranged if the department requests them.
